Image Description:
The de Havilland DH106 Comet 3 flew for the first time on 19th July 1954 and was a lengthened Comet 2 powered by Avon M502 engines developing 10,000 lbf with greater capacity and range, including the addition of wing pinion tanks. The Comet 3 was destined to remain a development series since it did not incorporate the fuselage strengthening modifications of the later series aircraft, and was not able to be fully pressurised. Only two Comet 3 aircraft were constructed with this example G-ANLO being the only flying Comet 3.

Aircraft Data

The de Havilland DH.106 Comet was the world's first commercial jet airliner. Early Comet models suffered from metal fatigue, causing a string of accidents. The redesigned Comet 4 series enjoyed a long and productive career of over 30 years.
