The DC-8 is a medium to long range 4 engined airliner. It was the first jet powered airliner from Douglas, and the USA's second successful jet airliner after the Boeing 707. It was developed into many variants of differing ranges and capacities.

DC-8 Series 40 The first turbofan-powered airliner in the world, the -43 was essentially the same as the -33 but with Rolls-Royce Conway turbofans for better efficiency, less noise and less smoke. The 43 also had various wing improvements.
