The English Electric Lightning was a British built supersonic jet fighter aircraft of the Cold War era operated by the Royal Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force and Kuwait Air Force

The prototype aircraft were known as the P.1. The First Lightning was delivered to the RAF in 1960 as the F1. Various upgrades and modifications resulted over the years which resulted in many versions.
