Event running from November 17th to November 21st, 2013

The Dubai Airshow opened in November 2013 in a brand new home at Al Maktoum International Airport in Jebel Ali , part of the multi-billion-dollar Dubai World Central (DWC) complex. Once completed, Al Maktoum International is set to become the world’s largest airport with an ultimate capacity of 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per year. This was the 13th Dubai Airshow which has been held every two years since its inception in 1989.
Exhibitors and visitors felt the difference with the exhibition halls having more spacious aisles, an improved media centre, a larger static park for more aircraft and more spaces for outdoor pavilions. For the first time, the public were able to enjoy direct views of the flying displays from a purpose-built 6000 seat grandstand located adjacent to the runway.
This year’s Airshow attracted 1046 exhibitors, 163 aircraft on static display, around 60,000 trade visitors and a record-breaking US $200 billion order book, the largest in any airshow history. Orders included:
• Emirates order for 50 additional A380’s worth US $20 billion.
• Etihad order for up to 117 Airbus aircraft worth up to US $27 billion.
• Boeing orders and commitments that reached 342 aircraft valued at US $101.5 billion. The orders included an Etihad order for 30 787-10s including the 1000th Dreamliner order, becoming the largest customer for the 787 family with a total of 71. The 787 has reached the 1000th order milestone faster than any other twin-aisle airplane in aviation history.
• Orders and commitments from Emirates, Qatar and Etihad (+ a previously announced order from Lufthansa) for 259 777X valued at US $95 billion. This placed the 777X as the largest product launch in commercial jetliner history by value. The 777X will be the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine jetliner and is targeted for first delivery in 2020.
• Etihad order for Trent XWB engines from Rolls Royce valued at US $5 billion.
Displays at Dubai Airshow included the UAE’s Al Fursan aerobatics team, the Red Arrows and a first for the gulf region, the Airbus Military transport aircraft A400M. There was also participation by the US Air Force with several aircraft both flying and in the static park as well as newly delivered airliners and many executive jets.
Unusually for Dubai, severe weather conditions caused the final day of the airshow to be cancelled.
The next Middle East Business Aviation show will run at DWC in December 2014, and the next Dubai Airshow in 2015.The Airshow is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in co-operation with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports and the UAE Armed Forces.
