The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar was the third widebody passenger jet airliner to enter commercial service after the Boeing 747 and McDonnell Douglas DC-10. The Royal Air Force (No. 216 Squadron) operate the L-1011 Tristar as military tanker aircraft

The L-1011-1 designed for short and medium-range flights many were used for the US domestic market. The L-1011-100 had a new center fuel tank that increased the aircraft's range. The L-1011-500 was a longer-range variant and had more powerful engines
