The Spitfire was the RAF's first all metal stressed skin single engine fighter. It was produced from 1938-47 serving throughout WW2 and on into the 1950s in a series of increasingly capable versions. Over 40 examples are still airworthy world wide.The Mk,V was a more powerful,stronger development of the Mk.II,and included many specialised sub-versions for high altitude interception, low level fighting, ground attack and reconnaissance. It served in most WWII theatres from 1941 to 1943.

Power
1 x Rolls Royce Merlin (880 - 1315 hp) piston engine.
The Mk.V used the Merlin 45,50 or 50A rated at 1470hp or the Merlin 46 rated at 1415hp.
Weapons
Depending on sub version, 8x .303 inch Browning machine guns or 4x Browning machine guns and 2x 20mm Hispano canon.Provision for 2x 250 lb bombs and 1x 500 lb bomb.Unarmed reconnaissance versions were also produced.
